Can you wash clothes with dish soap?

TL;DR

Only carefully. Use dish soap for small stain treatment, not as regular washer detergent.

Dish soap can help with some grease stains, but it is not a normal replacement for laundry detergent.

Using too much in a washing machine can create a suds problem.

Dish soap is made to foam. In a washing machine, too much foam can overflow, rinse poorly, or leave residue.

For greasy spots, rub a tiny drop into the stain, let it sit briefly, then wash with regular laundry detergent.

If you are out of detergent, hand washing with a very small amount is safer than pouring dish soap into a full machine load.

Dish soap can fight grease stains, but it should not become your laundry detergent.
